I also heard that the Hammerfall Cardbus by RME will be coming out in the near future as Macbook (Pro) compatible. While it seems that the Express 34 Card is not a commonly used port for audio interfaces, it's enlightening to hear that Apogee is coming out with one. My real goal is to find a high quality audio interface that keeps my firewire and usb busses open. The computer would be used for audio generation and manipulation within the box (sound design). I'll be doing virtually no recording so inputs and a/d converters and preamps and such are not an inssue. My needs are definitely low latency, and just basic 2 channel output.
